Thanks For All Your Support in 2022
Plus the latest Evenstar Institute bulletin on China's influence worldwide
Hello and welcome back to What China Wants, and the last post of 2022. It’s been a hectic twelve months watching China’s influence around the world, and there’s no indication next year will be any calmer.
It is also been a busy year for us. As well as launching the podcast (which saw a tripling in our audience - hello everyone) we also established The Evenstar Institute. This is a non-partisan, not-for-profit think tank focused on measuring and understanding the evolving nature of national influence in the twenty first century. The China Influence Index is one of our core programmes and is now integrated with What China Wants.
Our final innovation has been the new weekly Evenstar Institute Bulletin, bringing you news on China’s influence around the world. See below for the latest newsletter.
None of this would be possible without the incredible support of our audience. Thanks to you all for the bountious feedback and suggestions, and here’s to an even better 2023.
Finally, here is the latest newsletter on China’s global influence. Some of the highlights:
Saudi Aramco, Sinopec sign refinery agreement
US adds fishing firms, other companies to trade blacklist
European Parliament passes resolution critcising TikTok for protest suppression
Beijing to spend USD 143 bn to counter US microchip restrictions
