Announcing The Evenstar Institute think tank
Measuring & understanding measuring the evolving nature of national influence
Hello and welcome to What China Wants.
We have some exciting news. Last week we launched a new think tank called The Evenstar Institute. It is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organisation focused on measuring and understanding the evolving nature of national influence in the twenty first century.
We have two core, and overlapping programmes: The China Influence Index, using our proprietary, data-driven models to examine China’s global influence; and Macro Supply Chain: Risks, Challenges and Opportunities, looking at the geopolitical and geoeconomic risks to supply chain interruption.
Given the centrality of China to both of these programmes, we have decided to make What China Wants into the official podcast of the Evenstar Institute. The focus of WCW will not change. We will continue to shine a light on China and its influence abroad, looking at political, economic, and cultural issues, but we will also send our subscribers the latest Evenstar Institute research.
Talking of research, we have now published our first Evenstar Institute paper, titled “An Overlooked Risk: China’s Indirect Influence Over the United Kingdom’s National Security Supply Chain”. In it, we show how the UK’s national security supply chain is heavily exposed to China in three separate ways: directly, indirectly (through third party countries that may be heavily influenced by Beijing), and through China’s strong position in the global logistics network. You can access the report here.
If you would like to know more about our research then please do get in touch, either through substack or by emailing me sam.olsen@evenstarglobal.com
Should you wish to receive news and updates from The Evenstar Institute itself, please subscribe to the mailing list via www.evenstarinstitute.com, or reply to this email. We will be sending subscribers weekly bulletins covering trends and developments in global influence.
Many thanks for your continued support. Stewart and Sam will be back on Thursday with more What China Wants.
